Phlebotomy services are provided by trained hospital and/or nursing
staff on a daily basis. Scheduled phlebotomy rounds occur at:
6:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 9:00 p.m.
STATs and other timed draws can be requested by contacting the
appropriate phlebotomy staff in each area.
All 6:00 a.m. rounds should have pre-requisitioned labels. Requisitions
for the 6:00 a.m. draw should be sent to the Lab prior to 2100 hours the
evening before.
Requisitions written between 2100 and 2300 hours may be delivered before
2300. Any requisitions written after 2300 should be clipped to the phlebotomy
clipboard at the main nursing station.
For each of the phlebotomy rounds, it is necessary to have the requisition
slips ready and on the clipboard at least 30 minutes prior to the draw time. Add-ons will
be accepted upon arrival at the nursing units. In order to prevent double
venipunctures, add-ons must be ready for the blood draw staff as they arrive on
the floor.
