Ordering Blood Components

Blood components and derivatives are federally regulated as prescription drugs. As such, an order for all transfusions must be present in the patient's chart. When the order is placed, the date of anticipated transfusion should also be provided.

All information provided to the Blood Bank by phone will be recorded and read back to the caller. Contact the Blood Bank at 5-7207 for additional information. For emergent request of blood, see the Block Release Protocol.
